Peptides

As we age, communication diminishes within the skin, resulting in decreased collagen production and an accumulation of degraded elastin fibres.  Peptides act as messengers in the skin, allowing the dermis and epidermis to communicate more efficiently.  Consultant dermatologists have now shown that this effect of these peptides is very significant.

One peptide chain in particular, Maxitryl, has been shown to decrease skin roughness by 13%, reduce wrinkle volume by 36% and reduce wrinkle depth by 27% after four months of twice daily applications on the face and neck.

Another peptide, Argireline, is being used as a topical alternative, or in addition with, BOTOX®.  It gently relaxes the facial muscles by interfering with nerve signals that tell the muscles to contract.  Although the results are mild compared to the effects of BOTOX®, products containing this peptide can cause a noticeable difference on their own, as well as prolonging the effects of BOTOX®.

Rigin is a peptide which reduces inflammation and mimics the action of DMEA, producing a more youthful skin.

Eyeliss and Regu-age are two further peptides which work best when combined together.  They decrease capillary permeability and improve the lymphatic circulation under the eyes, thereby improving the firmness and elasticity.  Dark circles under the eyes can disappear in 4-8 weeks!

Melanostatin-5 is a brand new skin lightening peptide which helps to reduce the production of melanin, thus preventing and lightening hyperpigmentation.

In the past, many anti-ageing treatments worked by damaging or irritating the skin in order to trigger new growth.  This can cause inflammation and a series of chemical reactions that generate free radicals and ultimately destroy collagen and elastin fibres.  In contrast, peptides have been shown to stimulate the natural rebuilding process without irritating the skin.

Experts are generally in agreement that there is no such thing as a single miracle cure.  The ageing process in the skin is complex – stimulated by a multitude of factors.  This is why, in order to obtain the best results, it is recommended to combine different anti-ageing ingredients in our daily routines.  Vitamin C, Zinc, DMAE, Hyaluronic Acid, Peptides, Co-Enzyme Q 10, Alpha Lipoic Acid all work on the skin in completely different ways and can boost results if used in combination with each other.

Claremont Clinic is delighted to announce that it now stocks an extensive range of products from Dermaquest, combining a range of these products.  Please contact Jane on 01483 828911 for more information.
